Queenslanders Smash Records with Biggest Month and Week in the Scheme’s History
Queenslanders have taken container recycling to a whole new level… and then some!
In December 2025, the state celebrated not one, but two major milestones in the history of Containers for Change: the biggest week and the biggest month ever recorded.
One week. Two records broken.
Between 15–21 December 2025, Queenslanders returned a jaw-dropping 50.1 million containers – the largest weekly total since the scheme began. That’s $5.1 million back in the pockets of Queenslanders in just seven days - a welcome festive season boost for households, community groups and charities across the state.
And the momentum didn’t stop there.
By the end of December, more than 195 million containers had been returned statewide - officially making it the largest month in the scheme’s history.
That’s over $19.5 million refunded to Queenslanders in a single month.
A year of recycling wins
These record-breaking results capped off an already remarkable year.
In total, Queenslanders returned more than 1.92 billion containers in 2025 through more than 400 refund points. That equates to $192 million flowing back into communities - while keeping valuable materials out of landfill.
Pat yourselves on the back Queensland!
Why it matters (beyond the 10 cents)
These milestones reflect more than impressive numbers. They demonstrate a strong commitment to protecting the environment and supporting local communities.
Every eligible container returned through Containers for Change gets recycled into something new, supports local jobs and businesses, reduces litter and landfill, and can help fund charities and community causes.
Whether you’re a seasoned pro with a colour-coded setup or you made just one return - you’re part of this success.
Let’s keep it going, Queensland!
This milestone belongs to every Queenslander.
And the best part? The next big target is already within reach. With 200 million monthly returns in sight, there’s another record waiting to be broken.
So keep collecting. Keep returning. Keep spreading the word. Because every container counts — and Queenslanders have just proven what’s possible when we all pitch in.
